Lead Technician

Job Summary

A Lead Technician has shown the ability and desire to take responsibility for installing connectivity and security solutions. A Lead Technician can be assigned to a single project or multiple projects, depending on size and complexity. The Lead Technician must motivate work crews, develop strong customer relationships, and ensure a timely, high-quality installation that meets specific customer requirements.

Only candidates local to Central Virginia will be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a clean, neat, professional appearance and wear the company uniform during all project-related duties unless otherwise directed.
  • Accept direction and critiques from team members in higher classifications.
  • Understand complex wiring diagrams and installation instructions.
  • Demonstrate proven ability to terminate common types of fiber optic fittings (SC, ST, LC, etc.) efficiently and to industry, manufacturer, and Childress Solutions standards.
  • Terminate and test copper cabling to industry, manufacturer, and company standards.
  • Understand and apply the testing requirements for various categories of copper media (Category 5e, Category 6, Category 6a, etc.).
  • Complete Telecommunication Room build-outs, including rack construction, ladder rack installation, wire management, and grounding.
  • Implement labeling schemes as detailed in the Project Scope of Work.
  • Configure and use test equipment to perform all required tests on copper and fiber media.
  • Perform and document optical attenuation tests on single-mode and multi-mode optical strands.
  • Exhibit excellence in customer relations and maintain a professional demeanor in difficult or stressful situations.
  • Motivate and assign tasks to work crews to maximize efficiency and maintain workflow.
  • Follow company procedures for materials management, time accounting, and project administration.
  • Make decisions that support company values, mission, and quality goals.
  • Ensure project plans exist and are complete, and coordinate with the Operations Manager to tailor plans as needed.
  • Conduct a project walk-through with the Operations Manager to identify and resolve areas of concern.
  • Serve as a single point of contact for customers during installations, managing project changes and timelines.
  • Develop and manage all project materials, including storage, procurement, and minimizing waste.
  • Monitor project progress and communicate updates, milestones, and issues to the Operations Manager.
  • Ensure all proper test equipment is available and in working order.
  • Ensure all installations conform to industry standards, applicable codes, and project scopes.
  • Ensure all project team members follow Childress Solutions policies, safety procedures, and corporate values.
  • Provide labeling, documentation, and test data to customers as required.
  • Obtain Project Acceptance from customers upon completion.
  • Maintain a neat and orderly worksite and ensure proper care of company assets.
  • Promote and adhere to Environmental, Health & Safety policies.
  • Attend classes and training sessions as requested to obtain and maintain vendor certifications.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the installation, maintenance, and programming of electronics associated with telecom systems, TCP/IP networks, CCTV security, access control, and intrusion systems.
  • Must possess personal tools as outlined in the technician tool list.
  • Ability to install, terminate, and test low-voltage and fiber optic cables.
  • Strong understanding of low-voltage infrastructure and related services.
  • Ability to read complex wiring diagrams and installation instructions.
  • Must pass pre-employment screening.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Dexterity and coordination for use of hand tools and test equipment.
  • Ability to work at heights and use lifts with proper fall protection.
  • Physical ability to walk, stand, bend, lift up to 50 lbs., and drive as needed.

Working Conditions

  • Job is usually performed in indoor/outdoor environments under multiple environmental conditions.
  • Ability to accept periodic assignments that involve travel away from immediate district office area based on client needs, business needs and project scope.
  • Exposure to noisy or dusty conditions; chemicals & solvents; mechanical, electrical, and/or other hazards.
  • General hours of Monday through Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm. But ability to provide support during and outside regular business hours is required.
  • Must be able to work in the United States.

Technician I

Job Summary

The Technician I performs skilled infrastructure/structured cabling work in the installation, service and maintenance, repair and alteration of low voltage category cabling, fiber optic cabling, communications cabling and other various low voltage cabling systems.

Only candidates local to Central Virginia will be considered.

  • Attend classes and training sessions, as requested by Childress Solutions management, to obtain and maintain vendor certifications.

Technician II

Job Summary

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a clean, neat, professional appearance… Wearing the company uniform during all project related duties unless specifically directed otherwise by a superior.
  • Accept direction and critiques from Team Members in leadership roles.
  • Mechanical aptitude with the ability to read blueprints, architectural, mechanical, and electrical documents. Mechanical aptitude with the ability to read blueprints, architectural, mechanical, and electrical documents.
  • Proven ability to complete Telecommunication Room build-outs including rack construction, ladder rack installation, wire management, grounding, etc.
  • Proven ability to install, terminate & test low voltage cables to include twisted pair cable, coax, power limited tray cable, stranded & solid conductor low voltage cable and fiber optic cable.
  • Ability to articulate the differences and similarities in the testing requirements for the various categories of copper & fiber media.
  • Ensure that the proper test equipment is available, in proper working order and with all components available to test according accurately and completely to project commitments.
  • Proven ability to implement labeling schemes as detailed in the Project Scope of Work.
  • Comprehension of publications pertaining to standard cabling for telecom, data, security & wireless systems practices, engineering & Federal, State & local safety standards.
  • Working knowledge of industry standards including BICSI, ANSI, EIA/TIA, and local and National Electric Code.
  • Make decisions that support corporate values, mission, vision, quality goals and behaviors. In cases of extreme doubt or uncertainty, seek the counseling of managers.
  • Inform Operations Manager, at least weekly, on project progress, problems, milestones, and any other pertinent aspects of the installation.
  • Enlist assistance from Operations Manager and any other company resource to ensure project commitments are met.
  • Ensure project team members follow job site safety procedures and processes.
  • Obtain Project Acceptance from the customer at the completion of the project.
  • Use proper care on all company assets to avoid breakage, misuse, theft, etc.
  • Understands, adheres to, and promotes the Environmental, Health & Safety policies of Childress Solutions.
